Balanced Dog Training:
Be consistent and create a routine your critter can count on… Dogs thrive in a routine and at the heart of that is consistency. If you take your dog out for a walk one time this week, three times next week, and 5 times the next, then 1 time the following. If you tell your dog not to
jump on you when you come home, but allow it when you are walking around the house, your critter will get confused. If you always let your critter walkout in front and come to the end of the leash on walks, but expect her to walk nicely next to you when there are people or dogs all
around you, she will get confused. If your critter is allowed to sometimes rush out the door when you open it but also want them to sit sometimes, they will get confused. Not having a consistent exercise routine with your critter, especially if they are a working breed can reek
havoc in your home and with you. Unhealthy behaviors such as being more and more needy, barking at you or often dropping their toys on your lap when you are busy or pressuring you to play fetch, or even begin to show signs of obsessive compulsive disorder such as chasing
shadows in the house, jumping at lights shinning or moving on the floor or even attack and lunge at these moving visuals in the house. See these examples as all equal in terms of seriousness. Your dog needs you, just like a human child.
Be Consistent with your critter and mean what you say… Do the things you need to do to get up earlier so you can be there for your dog and not be rushed. If you are rushed or pressed for time, your critter will sense your anxious behavior to get out the door while you rush through
sit stay at the door routine for walks. Your critter will sense your anxiousness and lack of presence and they will not respond well, creating frustration and unclear communication, that’s not good for either party.
If your dog is not able to do something you ask, listen to them. Most likely they are saying, this is too hard for me. Maybe try moving your critter to a less challenging environment. Maybe there was too many distractions in the previous environment. Make it easier for them until they are ready to move on to the next level. They are asking for patience and they are asking you to be present for them.
Clear Communication: When we are working with loose leash walking, we can be deep into the training and often act in ways that make the dog think we are confused, so they become confused. Walk like you know what you are doing. Walk with a destination in mind and a route so your dog feels like he is following the leader. Clearer Communication I like a lot. Lets delve more into it!
